“Let’s go, Team; Let’s Go!” I can hear the chants now of the cheerleaders
on a Friday evening or a Saturday afternoon.
It is the sound of the Cheer girls and fans cheering along for their
favorite high school or college football team.
There is no doubt that Fall is one of my favorite times of year because
there is so much to do with family and friends.
There is nothing like sitting in a stadium, wrapped up in warm clothing,
eating nachos with cheese and jalapenos, and watching our alma maters play some
football. Whether tailgating with friends,
or just enjoying watching your son play his first Varsity game, football is
definitely a part of Fall.
Years ago, when the County Fair would
come to town; this was one of the highlights of the year. Small towns are
unique like that; this is one time of year that many of the residents all come
out for at least one night to see the attractions. The thoughts of corndogs,
funnel cakes, freshly squeezed lemonade, cotton candy, and candied apples are enough
to make even adults start to smile. I
will never forget going to the County Fair with my best friend. She and I would
eat one corndog after another just to see who could end the evening with the
most corndogs. Needless to say, we would go home sick, but it sure was fun eating
up all of those wieners dipped in corn muffin batter.
All of the things we do in life with our
family and friends help us to be more well- rounded people. The times we spend
laughing and enjoying one another are what make us look forward to the little
things in life that mean so much. Someone
asked me the other day if I liked jokes and comedy. I said of course I did.
Laughter is so important; it keeps us grounded and takes the seriousness of
work and other issues off of our minds for that moment. It was then that I thought: A sense of humor is essential. There is nothing wrong with
laughter and fun. We should all find laughter in things each day. It is not
expected that we take everything so SERIOUSLY all the time.
So as we venture into
Fall, take some time to grab a high school football game, tailgate with a few
friends, or better yet, get to the County Fair and have a greasy corndog. Those things will surely make you smile. The time that you get to spend with friends
will bring joy and happiness. Live and Laugh---Not only will you feel better,
but others will join you.
